Blended delivery masterclass in China

A TAFE Western teacher has delivered a successful five-day masterclass at China's Hunan University that profiled the Institute's state-of-the-art online and blended delivery strategies.

Fiona Watts, TAFE Western's Educational Leader New Learning Technologies, said the aim of the masterclass was to help equip participants with innovative new strategies they can introduce in their own country.

"Our delivery model is very different to China's," she told the Cowra Guardian. "Their current delivery consists of a lot of lectures, exams and essays whereas TAFE Western has a more flexible, industry and student focused style of delivery."

Titled Online and Blended Delivery, the masterclass covered five principal areas; getting ready, establishing the learning environment, guiding and facilitating learning, planning for conversations and monitoring learning progress.

"Participants enjoyed the interactive nature of the training and the ability to log into a live online course for their learning," Ms Watts said. "It gave them the opportunity to better understand both the process and the completed product. It was highly participatory and focused on developing skills to put the student at the centre of the learning."

Ms Watts believes that the success of the masterclass further strengthened relationships between TAFE Western and Hunan University, which will hopefully lead to future training and education opportunities.
