The basic principles of good governance are clear
delegations of authority and effective protocols for communication and decision-making
Sitting on a board or committee is more than just turning up for
meetings and nodding at the appropriate moments. Carrying out your
committee or board member duties effectively requires a particular
skillset that involves good communication, flexibility, collaboration,
leadership and informed decision-making.
You can now brush up on, or consolidate, these essential skills with
TAFE NSW Online's Governance
Induction Skill Set. This course offers a targeted approach as
it's been designed in consultation with business and industry groups.
And TAFE NSW Online's flexible delivery means you can study wherever
or whenever you choose.
This Statement of Attainment qualification runs for 12 weeks with a
recommended minimum of six hours per week. It's designed for
not-for-profit committee or board members who are interested in
improving their skills, as well as members of small to medium
for-profit organisations. The course is also suitable for executive
managers who report to boards and committees.
The course covers areas such as how to work within the structure of
an organisation, the roles and responsibilities of different members,
how to effectively carry out your board or committee member duties and
how to analyse financial reports and budgets for decision-making purposes.
The basic principles of good governance are clear delegations of
authority and effective protocols for communication and
decision-making. These principles are fairly consistent across
multiple contexts, professions and industries. Therefore, the skills
you learn in this course can be applied in many different areas, both
government and non-government.
