Setting the record on: Jobs

TAFE NSW has a large, ageing workforce of over 19,000 people, with almost 60% of TAFE teachers aged 51 or over.

TAFE NSW has a large, ageing workforce of over 19,000 people, with almost 60% of TAFE teachers aged 51 or over. To put this into perspective, TAFE NSW has nearly 4,000 staff who are over the age of 60. Nearly 400 staff are over 71 years of age. This leads to a measured exit rate for employees in the area or retirement.

Claims that TAFE NSW has sacked 4,600 people since 2012 are incorrect.

Since June 30, 2012, the TAFE NSW payroll system indicates that in total 3,649 people have left TAFE NSW – only 6 of these were dismissed.

The remaining people chose to leave due to retirement, resignation, transfer to another agency, voluntary redundancies and a range of other personal reasons.
