Outstanding hairdresser and TAFE NSW Port Macquarie student, Gaby
Ware, will be competing in the Abu Dhabi WorldSkills International
Competition, Australia's largest vocational skills competition, this
Gaby will be alongside 23 of Australia's current national champions,
each competing in their own particular trade or skill.
It was Gaby's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills
Australia National Competition last October that secured her a place
on the Australia Skills Squad team; an incredible accomplishment by
the talented 20-year old.
Gaby recently flew to Manchester, UK, to undergo intensive training
sessions and work with her counterparts in the lead up to the
competition. Gaby told Port Macquarie News that her
WorldSkills experience in the UK had been hard work but it was a once
in a lifetime opportunity.
"This training event is good for us as we can see what other
countries are doing and their techniques," Gaby said.
A particular focus for Gaby right now is learning to be in the
Gaby does regular training at TAFE NSW Port Macquarie campus where
she developed her impressive skill-set in cutting, colouring, perming,
chemical straightening, creating upstyles and catwalk inspired designs.
Five countries will compete over four days in the hairdressing
category throughout the competition.
If Gaby is successful, she will become one of the elite young men and
women who will join the 2017 Skillaroos team and have the opportunity
to showcase her skills on the world's stage.
