The role of NSW Housing services is changing and TAFE NSW is helping to prepare the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) housing staff.

TAFE NSW Western region is preparing to introduce a training program designed specifically for FACS staff. The program is set to help those impacted by domestic violence, mental health issues and substance abuse.

Jenny Rolfe, housing services western NSW manager, said the initial training would be for 10 customer service officers and to 500 throughout the state.

"Clients are changing and our clients' needs are changing," Mrs. Rolfe said.

"Twenty years ago we focused on looking after the property, but now we also support the people inside the property," she told theĀ Central Western Daily.

The training will be delivered over the next 18 months to three years. Upon completion of the training, the staff will receive a Certificate IV in Social Housing.
