The students travelled overseas as part of TAFE Western's Outbound
Mobility Program. This program provides support for students to
undertake international study tours. It provides students with 'hands
on' cultural learning experience while giving them credit towards
their Australian studies.
Accompanied by head teacher, Debbie Greenhalgh, the students will
take up residency at two of China's leading hospitals. They will be
split into groups and will alternate five-day placements at Shanghai
Redleaf Women's Hospital and American-Sino Obstetrician, Gynaecology
and Paediatrics Services.
This experience will give students a firsthand look at the very
different nursing techniques used in China. They will also learn about
cultural influences on the healthcare in the country. Students will
learn vital skills they will be able to introduce into their practices
once they return to Australia. This will broaden their understanding
of how their industry works from a global perspective and enhance
their career opportunities in Australia and abroad.
It's not all work though, in their down time students will be able to
truly immerse themselves in the Chinese culture by going on guided
tours, participating in cooking and calligraphy classes and attending
