No matter how unconventional your career path is, there's a strong possibility that TAFE NSW offers a course that will help you gain the skills necessary to pursue it
It's sometimes mistakenly assumed that TAFE NSW exists solely to help train up apprentices working in the trades. While that's definitely a big part of TAFE's mission, it's an educational institution that seeks to help a wide range of Australians acquire the skill set they need to pursue their dream career. Here are a few examples of some of the more unusual qualifications you can get at TAFE NSW.
Live Sound for Rock Bands (TAFE PLUS Statement)
As Bon Scott famously observed, it's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll. But if you dream of a life on the road setting up sound systems for the likes of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Crowded House or Wolfmother, this practical course will teach you everything you need to know about sorting out sound for bands. It provides instructions on how to get the most out of cutting edge audio technology, how to rig PA systems and how to set everything up for a live performance.
Cheese Making 2 (TAFE PLUS Statement)
Cheddar, blue, mozzarella and gorgonzola cheese don't just magically appear if you leave a cup of milk out in the sun for too long. This course teaches those working in the food manufacturing industry (and interested amateurs) how to create tasty cheeses, focusing on where to get the right ingredients and equipment and how to maintain proper hygiene throughout the production process.
Bush Tucker Gardens and Cultural Competence (TAFE PLUS Statement)
Ever since Bush Tucker Man first aired 25 years ago, Australians have had an increasing interest in living off the land – or at least being able to identify a tasty treat in the middle of some scrub. This course is aimed at childcare workers and teaches them what native Australian plants are safe for children to eat.
No matter how unconventional your career path is, there's a strong possibility that TAFE NSW offers a course that will help you gain the skills necessary to pursue it. You can find out more information about a wide range of TAFE NSW courses online.
