Be inspired by 3 incredible women

International Women's Day celebrates the achievements of women around the world. Here's just three.

Be inspired by 3 incredible women

TAFE NSW is supporting more women to start their own businesses through initiatives like the Women in Business program. Learn from successful, entrepreneurial women like these three...

1. Overcoming very similar challenges: Sahera Sumar

Sahera Sumar is a global leadership consultant, working with women in leadership and women in business. She worked in the corporate environment for over 15 years across many different industries.

“I was exposed to a lot of different people from a lot of different cultures, all aspiring to be great leaders. And it was a wonderful playing ground for me, not only working with very exciting and individual and talented people, but for me to see what and learn what people actually need to help them on that journey. And women all over the world, no matter where they are and what roles they're in, have very similar challenges. And so that inspired me forward.” - Sahera Sumar

2. Be proud of yourself: Dixie Crawford

As the managing director of Source Nation and Source Nation Carpentry, Dixie Crawford is focused on creating equity in this country for Aboriginal people.

“You are doing something that not many people are used to seeing. Whether you are an elder, single mum, a young person who's considering business and trying to come up with your concepts and understanding what it is that you can do and how it is that you can do it - and you start to doubt yourself and you believe that maybe you can't do this, maybe business isn't for you -  I want you to remember who it is that you are and where it is that you come from. And what you can contribute to make the world a better place for our people. I want you to remember how brilliant you truly are and the guts that it takes to dive into this. Not many people will do what it is that we're doing. So you should be very proud of yourself.” - Dixie Crawford

3. You're absolutely good enough: Taryn Williams

Taryn Williams is the award-winning CEO and founder of WINK models and theright.fit, and has proven herself as one of Australia’s most prolific entrepreneurs in the tech-startup and media industries.

"There's never going to be a perfect time. Your kids are never going to be the right age. Your mortgage is never going to be completely paid off. So if you want to take a risk, do it! I would much rather die knowing than die wondering. So surround yourself with fantastic people, don't be afraid to ask for advice whether that is hitting someone up on LinkedIn and asking for 10 minutes of their time to help you solve a particular problem or asking a friend if they will get in the trenches with you and proofread the copy for your website. Don't be afraid. You don't need to know everything. I think, so often women are fearful that they'll be perceived as not knowing enough if they put their hand up and ask for help, so don't feel like that. You are absolutely worthy, you're absolutely good enough, so get out there and give it a shot.' - Taryn Williams
