Housing boom has cemented TAFE NSW graduates as hot property

TAFE NSW graduate Rachael Greenwood is happy to be joining the booming property industry on the central coast after graduating from a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice at Gosford campus and securing work at LJ Hooker Real Estate.

Property prices have rose as high as $1.2 million in a year in NSW as the housing market continues to skyrocket against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic has changed where, and how, we work. These changes are already having an impact on the property market and will continue to do so as more city dwellers take advantage of the lifestyle benefits and lower housing costs outside of cities.

Data from the ABS, shows that during 2020 there was a record amount of Australians who made the move from the big smoke to the regions.

Ms Greenwood knows too well she has gotten her qualification at the right time.

“TAFE NSW gave me in-demand skills developed with industry in mind, helping me to future-proof my career. If you are considering a career in real estate, now is the time to pursue it.”

TAFE NSW Real Estate teacher Phil Salis said it was an ideal time to explore a career in property with the industry looking to fill an additional 7,000 jobs by 2025.

“Students will be equipped with the practical skills and experience that they need to pursue employment opportunities in the industry in a time where skilled agents are in demand.

“Similarly to most industries, there was concern for the real estate industry when COVID-19 hit but it has definitely shown not only resilience but enormous growth outside of capital cities.”

"Rachael’s success story highlights how our students graduate ready to transition to the workplace, with the real-world skills they need to hit the ground running.”

TAFE NSW introduced the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice in 2020 in response to property prices increasing and demand for real estate outside of Sydney climbing in NSW.
