Australians are embracing Halloween like never before, with research conducted by ebay.com.au finding there has been an 82 per cent increase in spooky décor purchases and a 31 per cent increase in Halloween costume sales over the last five years.[1]

To help bakers and themed-food enthusiasts get spooky this Halloween, TAFE NSW Australian Patisserie Academy is running a one day Halloween Cake decorating workshop.

On Saturday 26 October, students will learn how to create their very own Halloween-themed butter cream cake in the commercial kitchen facilities at the TAFE NSW Australian Patisserie Academy, Ryde.

Throughout the workshop, students will learn how to make Italian meringue buttercream and dark chocolate pops using compound chocolate. They will also learn how to cut, fill and mask a single tier round chocolate cake, create a smooth buttercream finish and how to add the ghostly finishing touches, including meringue kisses, meringue pops and lollies.

TAFE NSW Australian Patisserie Head Teacher, Luigi Stivaletta said, “This workshop is not only great for beginners, it is also perfect for bakers looking to further develop their skills. Over the course of four hours, we’ll cover everything from creating meringue buttercream to learning how to perfectly decorate the cake.

“Students also get to take the cake home and it’s sure to impress anyone who is looking forward to digging into some sweet treats this Halloween.”
