As a kid, Jeremy Robins' two main passions were drawing and cars.

Then when he was a teenager, Jeremy's artistic side saw him dabbling in graffiti. This led to him adopting spray paint as his principal medium.

Now 21, Jeremy has signed up for the Cert III in Automotive Technology at Campbelltown TAFE and is in his final year of an apprenticeship with Camden Crash and Restorations.

"My dad was a mechanic so since I was young I grew up around cars and I also had a passion for art," he told the Daily Telegraph. "I wanted to combine my passion for art with my passion for cars without getting in trouble so I became a spray painter and as soon as I started, I fell in love with it."

Jeremy was among a group of students who attended the opening of the 3M training facility in Western Sydney. The $2 million facility includes booths for spray painting and repairs, which are available to TAFE students.

Andrew King, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Manager told the Daily Telegraph that the automotive industry is struggling to attract people into panel beating.

"What is important is upskilling," he said. Courses like TAFE's Cert III in Automotive Technology will help the skills shortage currently affecting the auto industry.
