Cookery student's culinary talent recognised!

Congratulations to Marcus Ulmer, the 2017 winner of the prestigious TAFE NSW Oliver C Shaul Scholarship. Marcus who studied commercial cookery at TAFE NSW Ultimo, is currently working at The Royal Sydney Golf Club at Rose Bay.

From a very young age, Marcus has had a desire to cook for his family and friends. His passion for food, has led him to become a finalist in the "Fonterra proud to be a Chef" 2017 mentoring Program. His enthusiasm has lead him to assist, unpaid, in various establishments to help strengthen his skills.

Marcus is the 29th recipient of the Oliver C Shaul Scholarship, which gives him a great opportunity to broaden his training even further by working in internationally renowned restaurants overseas. Marcus will be heading to London where he will spend a month at The Ledbury London and then to Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, England.

Oliver Shaul, was an entrepreneur who among his achievements opened the Summit Restaurant, established the catering at the Sydney Opera House and the Travelodge hotel chain. He had a deep commitment to training and giving talented apprentices an opportunity to continue their learning with masterful chefs. He received the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the hospitality industry.

Scholarship applications from across the state are judged by industry representatives looking for commitment, passion and culinary talent.  Marcus had this in spades. Congratulations Marcus we hope you enjoy your amazing overseas experience!
