Students head to Russia to take on the world

The Skillaroos, a team of Australia’s top skilled professionals, will compete in the 45th Worldskill International Competition in Russia. These are just some of the TAFE NSW students who have made it through the intense local and national levels of competition. They're off to Russia this month to show the world what they’ve got. We're incredibly proud of you - go for gold!

Autobody repair and finish

Maxine Colligan trained in autobody repair and refinish at TAFE NSW and will represent Australia in the Car Painting category.

Maxine loves the creative aspect of spray painting and enjoys experimenting with custom work, pinstriping and airbrushing.

Industrial mechanic millwright

Clinton Larkings earned a place on the Skillaroos team for his mastery of industrial mechanics.

“I still can’t believe a boy from the bush can have an opportunity to travel the world and compete against the best tradies in a job I love doing,” Clinton says.

Graphic design

Indy Griffiths was over the moon to be to competing against other talented young people in the skill of graphic design.

“Growing up, the thought of representing my country wasn't an option,” says Indy. "I wasn't really into sport. My main goal was just to successfully work for myself in the future. Years later I'm here, working for myself and representing my country—all in one. It is the biggest honour to be part of the Skillaroo team."

Jewellery design

Nathan Kettle decided to study jewellery at TAFE NSW and he says "I fell in love with it instantly and I knew it was for me.

“I love working with precious metals and stones; taking a blank bar or plate of gold and forming it into something that could become a family heirloom is very special,” he says.
