Agriculture, food processing, forestry, horticulture, mining and natural resources

Horticulture students examine plants in a greenhouse

From cattle breeding to mining, and floristry to forestry, this sector is at the heart of Australian culture and history.

Agriculture is about farming of plants and livestock for food and textiles. Livestock industries in Australia include beef, sheep, lambs, pigs, goats and chicken and Australia is a world leader in the production and export of a number of meats.

Australia is also the largest exporter of gold, iron ore and black coal in the world and the leader in mining and mineral processing technology.

The agricultural and natural resources industries are changing rapidly, with environmental and economic sustainability now a main focus. There are new fields of expertise in organic farming, recycling, land management and water conservation, driving demand for skilled professionals.
