Combine your passion for horses with the essential practical skills and knowledge you need to work as a stablehand, stud hand, groom or strapper. Learn to safely handle and care for horses while establishing a rewarding career in the equine industry.

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Undertake stable duties
Wash and groom horses for competition
Fit gear to a variety of horses
Participate in horse exercise
Apply First Aid to horses and humans
Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.
Care for performance horses and undertake horse welfare practices
Exercise, feed and maintain horse health
Provide first aid to horses
First Aid certificate
Some courses require evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
A passion for horses and an interest in the equine industry
A strong work ethic
A reasonable level of fitness to complete manual tasks such as tacking up, carrying items up to 15kg and horse riding
A love of the great outdoors
The ability to follow directions both supervised and unsupervised

The Certificate III in Performance Horse does not have any pre-requisite courses.
At TAFE NSW, we recognise your previous study and work experience. You can apply for recognition of prior learning or a credit transfer with any of our courses. If you're successful you'll get your qualification faster.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Performance Horse qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 16 units of competency, including 8 core and 8 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
