Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Read and interpret plans
Install below ground sanitary drainage systems
Install storm water and subsoil drainage systems
Understand storm water management
Gain practical experience and develop specialist skills that give you an advantage in the job market.
Experience cutting, laying and joining pipes and underground pipe services
Experience installing trench support equipment
Knowledge to become a registered drainer
A strong pathway to becoming a licenced drainer
Some courses require evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
A valid general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card). You will need this before entering a construction worksite.
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
Relevant employment as a drainer or drainer’s labourer
An interest in practical work in various locations

This is a licensed occupation. When you successfully complete the Certificate II in Drainage, and four units from the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services you can apply for a licence. Visit NSW Fair Trading for licensing requirements and guidelines before you apply.

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate II in Drainage qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 22 Units of competency, including 18 core and 4 speciality units.
