Overview About this course

Begin your career as an appliance service technician and learn the practical skills you need to install and repair home and commercial applicances like refrigerators, ovens, washing machines, clothes dryers, microwaves and vacuum cleaners and be prepared to apply for your electrical licence.

Learning Outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Service small electrical appliances and power tools

  • Understand the fundamentals of electricity

  • Work with hand and power tools

  • Use engineering drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards and codes and specifications

  • Disconnect/reconnect composite appliances connected to low voltage installation wiring

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • Be employed as an apprentice in industry as evidenced by a letter of support from your employer

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Interest in electrotechnology, air conditioning and refrigeration

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Maths skills equivalent to a Year 10 level
