Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Weld, lay, install and join underground pipes

  • Test and maintain pipes

  • Mark out and install roof rainwater components

  • Read and interpret plans

  • Real-world experience in TAFE NSW workshops and purpose-built facilities, including simulated kitchens and bathrooms

  • Experience in installing hot and cold-water pipe services and above and below ground drainage services

  • Eligibility to register as a journeyman plumber with NSW Fair Trading

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • Be employed as an apprentice in the plumbing industry evidenced by a letter of support from your employer

  • Submit your training plan proposal (TPP) with your application

Completion requirements

During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

  • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) you will need this before you can enter a construction site

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

  • A reasonable level of strength and agility to lift heavy tools and move freely

  • The ability to work as part of a team

  • Some experience in handling tools and equipment

  • A reliable nature
