Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Safely perform advanced scaffolding work
Erect, alter or dismantle a temporary structure to support a platform from which a person or object could fall more than 4 metres
Select and set up equipment such as swing stages, needles and winches
Clean up excess materials and store scaffolding equipment properly

During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:
You will need to successfully pass both the TAFE NSW assessment and the relevant SafeWork NSW high-risk work (HRW) assessment to complete the course. Your teacher will then provide you with the documentation you need to submit your application for an advanced scaffolding licence.
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
Language, literacy, and numeracy skills at a Year 10 level or equivalent
Intermediate level fitness to manage physical demands such as bending, kneeling, lifting and standing
Experience in handling tools and equipment
Confidence working at heights and in confined spaces
A commitment to your safety and the safety of others
Enthusiasm and an interest in working for the construction industry

This is a licensed occupation. After you successfully complete the Statement of Attainment in Advanced Scaffolding, and have fulfilled all other eligibility criteria, you can apply for an advanced scaffolding (SA) licence with SafeWork NSW. They are the licensing and regulatory authority in NSW. This licence will allow you to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding at an advanced level. You will need to pay for a processing fee (per class of licence) whenever you apply. You will also need a white card (or general construction induction card), which is required for workers who want to carry out construction work in NSW. This is specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007).
