Assessments

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

  • Knowledge tasks: online quizzes, short answer questions, case studies, written tasks and research projects, matching and true or false activities

  • Practical tasks before starting work placement: interviews, role-plays, creative projects, presentations and practical demonstrations

  • Workplace assessment tasks: written tasks, reflective journals, verbal or written questioning, planning and implementing activities, practical demonstrations

  • Submission of a training logbook

  • Workplace portfolio

Work placement

Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.

  • You will undertake a mandatory 160 hours of work placement with a suitable industry employer.

  • You need to meet the following requirements to be able to undertake work placement. Your teacher will let you know when you need to provide evidence of:

  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)

  • Vaccination and health screenings

  • Any additional evidence your work placement provider requires

  • At TAFE NSW we provide training that includes hands-on, practical experience. Work placement ensures you have the job-ready skills to achieve competency in this course.

  • Depending on your mode of study, TAFE NSW will arrange your work placement for you or support you to find one.

  • TAFE Digital students:

  • You are responsible for arranging your own work placement. Our Skills Team can offer support and guidance to assist you.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 17 Units of competency, including 15 core and 2 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

Course delivery Studying Online

Choose when and where you study. Set your own pace, with all your study materials online, allowing you to manage your own workload. Access your learning management system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a highly collaborative space that involves more than simply reading and consuming.

You will interact creatively with content, teachers and your peers, improving your overall engagement with the course. Teaching staff are available to provide you with support, enabling you meet your course outcomes.

You may need to attend a vocational placement, on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.
