Learning Outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Examine patients and develop a prosthetic treatment plan

  • Take impressions and establish jaw relationships

  • Select artificial teeth, evaluate removable dental prosthesis

  • Fit and issue dental prosthesis

  • Use a purpose built CADCAM to facilitate digital dentistry

  • Provide individualised oral hygiene programs

  • Perform maintenance treatments

  • Safely use medical equipment

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

  • You'll need to provide a transcript of your Diploma of Dental Technology (HLT55115 or HLT55118)

Completion requirements

During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

  • A Working with Children Check (WWCC)

  • A National Police Check

  • Vaccination and health screening

  • Any additional evidence the work placement provider requires

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • Excellent fine motor skills and dexterity to carry out precision tasks

  • Adequate fitness and mobility to deliver First Aid, like performing CPR while kneeling on the floor

  • Advanced English language proficiency

  • Sensitivity to working with a range of diverse people

  • Great communication skills and are able to multi-task

Licensing

To practice as a dental prosthetist in NSW, you need to be registered as a primary health care professional with the Allied Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Upon graduation, you can apply for registration through the Dental Board of Australia.

Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 12 Units of competency, including 11 core and 1 speciality units.

Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.

  • Insert and issue a completed removable dental prosthesis HLTDEP006-GRADED

  • Take impressions HLTDEP003-GRADED

  • Establish and record jaw relationships and select artificial teeth HLTDEP004-GRADED

  • Evaluate a removable dental prosthesis at try-in stage HLTDEP005-GRADED
