The Bachelor of Information Technology (Data Engineering) provides you with the essential knowledge and technical skills for the design, implementation, and management of ‘big data’, data systems and their infrastructure to support big data solutions. There is a growing demand for professionals with the experience and qualifications to build IT solutions and manage big data. Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:
Extract, transform and load data from a variety of data sources
Prepare data sets for analysis and reporting using SQL
Design, build and manage data pipeline architectures
Set up and manage big data systems like Hadoop and Spark
Develop algorithms using Python to transform data into useful, actionable information
Build storage solutions for large-scale data systems
Administer cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Azure.
Develop specialist skills to gain an advantage in the job market

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol
A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent or
A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent or
A completed Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification
Submit a 500 word essay that shows your motivation to study and work in the information technology industry
Attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support
Have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent before entering this course, or you may be required to undertake a bridging program or preparatory course
Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer
To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:
Some experience and knowledge in information technology
A strong interest in information technology and data engineering
Computer and digital literacy
A background in information technology
You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.
