Acquire entry level cyber security skills to confidently start your career in the cyber security industry. Recognise and deal with common cyber security threats in organisations and implement systems that can be used to protect against cyber attacks.

Learning Outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Recognise threats in networks, machines, applications, data, users and infrastructure

  • Understand common cybersecurity attack mechanisms

  • Understand the tools and systems organisations can use to protect from cyber-attacks

  • Use base level Linux commands

  • Use hacking tools and software

  • Use virtualisation software

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A good understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems

  • A good understanding of networking protocols, configuration of routers and switches including related protocols, command line configuration and IP addressing

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills at Year 12 level

  • Good problem-solving skills to complete the units

  • Personal computer with Microsoft operating system

  • Access to broadband internet which allows downloading of large files
