Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
Knowledge assessments: short answer questions, assignment, closed book exam, multiple choice questions
Skills assessments: demonstration under observation with oral questioning on a vessel or simulated work environment
Work placement provides you with opportunities to respond to situations and circumstances that cannot be replicated in a learning or simulated environment. Work placement strengthens your training and supports continued learning and assessment in the workplace.
To complete this course, the following materials are required:
Navigational equipment such as parallel rulers, dividers and a chart for Navigational exercises at an estimated cost of $60

Successful completion of the AMSA <24m Certificate of Competency or its equivalent, as evidenced by a copy of your certificate or transcript
Learners must have already obtained the majority of their sea time required to obtain the AMSA Master 45m Certificate of competency prior to enrolling. Please check licensing requirements at www.amsa.gov.au
Students will be required to attend practical assessments in Sydney of up to 5 days duration. A selection of practical assessment dates will be available after enrolment.
Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal) qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 22 units of competency, including 22 core and 0 speciality units.
Core units are central to the job outcomes of a particular industry or occupation. These are the units industry has agreed are essential to be capable and qualified at a particular study level.
Choose when and where you study. Set your own pace, with all your study materials online, allowing you to manage your own workload. Access your learning management system 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is a highly collaborative space that involves more than simply reading and consuming.
You will interact creatively with content, teachers and your peers, improving your overall engagement with the course. Teaching staff are available to provide you with support, enabling you meet your course outcomes.
You may need to attend a vocational placement, on campus assessment and/or a teacher might need to observe and assess you in a real or simulated environment. Online courses require access to a computer with an internet connection.
