This course is designed for learners who would like a supported pathway to employment, or would like introductory education and training. It is open to anyone who is keen to improve both their social and technical skills.
Assessments give you the chance to demonstrate what you have learned, and to find areas that may need more support. They also provide a chance for you to feel comfortable with assessments, preparing you for success in the future. In this course, the types of assessments you will complete include:
- Writing short answers to questions (written and spoken)
- Practical activities on the computer
- Finding and presenting information
- Planning activities such as writing goals
The Certificate I in Preparation for Work and Training is designed for people looking to kick start their education and gain confidence. Students who enrol in this course usually have a culturally and linguistically diverse background and are highly supported by teachers throughout their learning journey.
When you choose to continue your learning, you may enrol into the Certificate I in Access to Work Training to further prepare yourself for work and study.
You may also enrol into a Certificate II that further prepares you for a job in your chosen field. You will expand your reading, writing, numeracy and technology skills in a supportive learning environment.
To further your education, you may then choose to enrol in a Certificate III which is an entry level qualification that gives you experience in a workplace environment. It covers industry focused skills that can be applied in your chosen career.
Depending on your campus location and your chosen electives, you may have the opportunity to participate in excursions. These include:
- Attending community centres, services and agencies
- Attending government services
You will gain hands on experience by:
- Communicating with groups and individuals
- Researching information
- Reading and writing
- Completing basic calculations and measurements
- Using tools and equipment
- Learning skills in a workplace environment
You will work on real world projects, such as:
- Reading and producing simple workplace documents such as signs, forms, emails, letters and short reports
- Using basic computer skills to search the internet
- Communicating verbally in the workplace
- Using numbers, money and time in contexts relating to everyday life and work
You will have access to industry specific computer rooms, studios, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities available at most TAFE NSW campuses, including:
- Libraries
- Computers and other digital devices
- Books (audio and visual)
- Strong study support including teachers, counsellors, disability consultants and Indigenous officers
Depending on your location, there may also be adaptive technology devices available for learners with special needs.
The demand for workers who have a strong foundation in reading, writing, and technology is high. The Certificate I in Preparation for Work and Training provides you with the skills to meet these demands and gain meaningful employment.
