Assessments give you the chance to demonstrate what you have learned, and to find areas that may need more support. They also provide a chance for you to feel comfortable with assessments, and work independently, preparing you for success in the future. In this course, the types of assessments you may complete are:
- Writing assessments including short answer, researching topics, creating resumes for job seeking
- Practical assessments including short presentations, displaying computer skills, and role playing
The Certificate I in Access to Work and Training is an introductory qualification that provides no exposure to simulated or real-world environments. It covers your foundational skills and sets you up for success in the Certificate II in Career Preparation.
This course, the Certificate II in Career Preparation, is where youll further your confidence and employability skills. It may provide real-world exposure, where youll apply communication and workplace skills in simulated environments. Youll practice your skills at a basic level in a supportive environment. You can further compliment your skills by enrolling into a Certificate II in Study Skills.
When you graduate, you may enrol into a Certificate III in Career Advancement to continue building your confidence and employability skills. You may also enrol into a Certificate III in your chosen career field.
At Certificate III level, youll gain further foundational, underpinning experience in your field of choice. Youll learn in simulated and real-world environments.
Depending on your campus location and elective choice, you may have the opportunity to participate in excursions that take you behind the scenes. These may include:
- Visits to different workplaces
- Cultural participation in community events
- Visits to local community or government services
You will gain hands-on experience by:
- Researching using internet and library resources
- Using software on the computer
- Working with groups and individuals
- Practicing oral communication e.g. interviews
- Gaining skills from work experience
- Developing independent adult learning skills
You will work on real-world projects, such as:
- Researching careers and the skills you will need for study and work
- Preparing job applications and developing a career portfolio
- Developing workplace skills e.g. completing forms, writing workplace documents and researching workplace policies
- Learning skills at work placements
You will have access to industry specific computer rooms, studios, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities available at most TAFE NSW campuses, including:
- Libraries
- Computers and other digital services
- Books (audio and visual)
- Strong study support including teachers, counsellors, disability consultants, Indigenous officers
Depending on your location, there may also be adaptive technology devices available for learners with special needs.
The course focuses on developing employability skills for future work include problem solving, creativity, communication, teamwork, digital literacy, critical thinking and presentation skills. These employability skills will help give you a competitive edge when job seeking.
