Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

Your assessments will include:

  • Participating in telephone conversations
  • Listening to different types of exchanges
  • Reading and comprehending a range of texts
  • Writing a range of texts such as emails, explanations, descriptions and instructions

The Certificate I in Fundamental English for Speakers of Other Languages is for people who would like to learn to communicate in everyday English, while gaining confidence in their reading, writing and listening skills.

This course, the Certificate II in Basic English for Speakers of Other Languages, will help you speak functional English and communicate on a basic level.

The Certificate III in English for Further Study will build your English language ability so you have the skills to study higher level qualifications in Australia.

To make sure you choose the right study level for your ability, TAFE NSW will assess your language level.

You will learn basic English skills to use in social situations in your community and workplace including:

  • Having conversations in your workplace and community
  • Reading and writing emails, instructions, directions and information texts
