The accredited Certificate III in Mentoring Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander People qualification is your first step to making some deadly changes in your community. Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

In this course you will undertake some or all of the following assessments:

  • Knowledge assessments: case studies or written tasks

The Certificate III in Mentoring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is a unique standalone course that meets industry, community and education needs. This qualification will allow you to support organisations through Reconciliation Action Plans, and provide valuable workplace mentoring for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff.

Excursions to potentional workplaces, community organisations and industries related to the students areas of employment interests will be arranged. This will allow you to share their experience with the mentee in an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander environment, and gives them the opportunity to engage in real world hands on experiences.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Culturally appropriate practices
  • Initiating, establishing and closing the mentoring process
  • Seeking and engaging support for your role
  • Working with a range of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander mentees to provide support and advise
  • Assisting in resolving a range of predictable and unpredictable problems
  • Networking and negotiating with stakeholders and mentees

TAFE NSW is known for delivering up-to-date theory along with relevant, in-demand skills to ensure you are job ready. In this course you will work on real-world projects, in simulated TAFE NSW environments, such as:

  • Work experience with an employer or community organisation
  • Consultation with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities

You will have access to industry specific computer rooms, studios, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities available at most TAFE NSW campuses.

There are specific Indigenous programs offered to students enrolled in this course, which include:

  • Deadly Skills Program: This program builds connections between the student and their family, their school, study options and employment pathways and can help students to make informed choices about their future.

  • Amplify Program: This program engages individual Aboriginal learners and builds connections with other learners, provides personalised support options, work placements and other networks.

TAFE NSW also offers you a range of online and on-campus study environments like industry specific computer rooms, simulated workplaces, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities - to enhance your learning and employability.

Student facilities, amenities and support services include:

The course will support the growing number of organisations, which through their Aboriginal Employment Strategies and/or Reconciliation Action Plans, have committed to provide workplace mentoring for their Aboriginal staff.
