Course details

People who are successful in this course have:

  • The ability to attend class on a regular basis for approximately 8 weeks
  • A commitment to their study and their future self

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

In this course you will undertake 4 tasks including:

  • Written questions
  • Role play scenarios
  • Practical demonstrations

All activities are based on the Learner Driver Workbook, and will be completed during class. Your teacher will be available at all times to support you.

This beginner course is designed for people looking to gain their L plates, and increase their confidence in studying. When you decide to begin your journey with us, we will help you to improve your literacy, numeracy and digital technology skills so you can pass the NSW Driver Knowledge Test.

You will build positive relationships with peers from similar backgrounds, and your teachers. Upon completion of this course, you might like to enrol in a Certificate I or II qualification that equips you with extra foundational skills that will take you another step closer to your goals.

You will have the opportunity to participate in an excursion to Service NSW, to get comfortable with the test environment, and to complete your drivers test.

You will gain hands-on skills in:

  • Practising for the NSW learner drivers test
  • Exploring technology
  • Discovering how to navigate the road safely
  • Practising reading and writing
  • Communicating with peers and teachers
  • Developing confidence through assessment work

TAFE NSW is known for delivering theory along with practical, hands-on learning. You will engage in real world activities, including:

  • Practising the NSW Driver Knowledge Test
  • Confidently learning the road rules and signs
  • Doing role plays and group activities

In the Course in Foundation Skills for Learner Drivers you will have the opportunity to study in a classroom with access to computers and teacher support.
