Overview

The importance of disaster-impacted communities being able to lead and drive their own social, economic, and natural and built environment recovery is reflected in contemporary research and disaster management policy. This unit will help to develop the skills needed to design and implement a recovery model that connects with and fosters community resilience. It will also examine the different approaches required for bottom-up community-led recovery, compared to the more traditional top-down model of recovery services being determined by and delivered to the community by external agencies. It applies to workers involved in middle to senior level management of disaster recovery, and/or individuals who might be members of a recovery committee or directly support such members. This skill set is based on the competencies PUAEMR017A Manage recovery functions and services and PUAEMR016A Facilitate community involvement in recovery.
