The Advanced Diploma in Cyber Security is currently in development and expected to be available in 2020.

Workplace simulation is conducted in the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC). A simulated team, made up of your class and other students, act as network security analysts. In this environment, you are responsible for detecting, analysing and responding to security breaches. You will also need to report on the breach and put in place strategies for preventing future incidents.

These CSOC activities allow you to conduct a cybersecurity team attack as well as defence scenarios over an extended period. Your teams also switch roles so that you can experience both sides of a security breach.

You will be part of team building and collaboration activities throughout the duration of the course. These activities use different technologies to help you to form diverse teams and to collaborate on the various projects that you required to work on.

Many of the scenarios covered in the course are delivered using a virtual lab environment. While they are considered simulations, the cloud-based virtual labs use full operating systems, software-based IPS/IDS systems, software-based firewalls, as well as SIEM software that gives you an authentic learning experience.

You will study in TAFE NSW campus classrooms as well as your work placement employer (should you choose to undertake work experience) or simulated work environment that reflects industry conditions.

There is high demand in professional services for cyber security professionals. Industries experiencing the most rapid increase in demand for cyber security workers are in industries managing growing volumes of consumer data including Finance, Health Care and the Retail Trade.

There is a skills gap for hybrid workers who have skills in traditional networking and cyber security plus financial skills like accounting or knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act regulations. These are the hardest roles for industry to fill since Finance and IT skills are rarely trained together and few workers can meet the demands of the role.

As a cyber security worker, you will have access to, and deal with an organisations critically sensitive information. In most cases, organisations will offer you a role and grant you a security clearance pending a successful Police Check that discloses a clean criminal history.

Industry employers need a highly educated and highly experienced workforce to navigate the rapidly changing demands of their business. You will need to continue your studies with targeted industry certifications to ensure you are skilled in preventing and managing emerging types of cyberattacks.

Every industry that operates in an online or digitised environment in some way is vulnerable to cyber security attacks.

From ecommerce online stores, banking and even publicly owned industries like transport need to a skilled workforce to prevent cyber security attacks and keep consumers and their data safe.
