TAFE Statement in Ceramics - Design and Make Jewellery in Clay

Course Code: 800-000172

Overview

The aim of this course is to design and make jewellery from Porcelain clay and Egyptian Paste from start to finish. You will learn how to fire Porcelain clay with colour stains to a high temperature, turning the works into pieces as strong as stone. The course will also introduce you to Egyptian paste.

Egyptian paste was used in ancient Egypt as a sort of alchemy to transform base ceramic elements into a substance that simulated precious gems. It is a specialised area and a rare opportunity to discover its secrets. You will also learn how to make your own small moulds so that you can keep making those special shapes again and again for repetitive patterns in your designs.

The course will run for 3 hours a week for 8 weeks under the guidance of a specialist Porcelain clay and Egyptian paste ceramic artist.
