TAFE Statement in Ceramics - The Raku Experience

Course Code: 800-000206

Overview

The excitement of Raku lies in taking the glowing pieces out of the kiln while they are still hot to achieve colourful yet highly unpredictable surfaces. We will explore using areas of in-glaze lustres, resists, oxides, traditional Raku glazes, burnishing and carbonising non-glazed areas to add visual interest through colour, contrast and texture.

Fun for beginners or experienced potters. Your tutor will work with you to design, make & fire, thrown or hand built forms suitable for Raku firing, while giving considerable thought towards embellishing the surface & firing limitations.
