If you go on to complete a degree, you could be employed by the ADF in a range of fields including information and communications technology, security, science, healthcare, education, law, intelligence, aviation and communications.

Australia will always need a strong security and defence force, so whether youre a high school graduate or an experienced tradesperson or qualified professional, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) offers stable jobs and the prospect of a long career.
The ADF has experienced steady growth over the last decade and currently has almost 90,000 employees. The Australian government has allocated $41.7 billion to the ADF in the federal budget for 2020-2021 (2 per cent of GDP) and has pledged to raise that figure to $51.4 billion for the 2023-2024 financial year.
The ADF offers an attractive career path to both men and women, with every role in the Navy, Army and Air Force except direct combat duties open to both genders. According to Defence's most recent annual report, the participation rate of women in the permanent ADF reached 18.6 per cent up from 17.9 per cent on the previous year.
If youre thinking of applying to the ADF with hopes of prospects in support roles, trades or professions, you will gain transferable skills that can be applied in many other industries outside the defence sector.
