Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services

National Course Code: ACM40310

Overview

This course is for people wanting to build on their existing skills in the care
of a variety of animals in a companion animal facility. It is also suitable for
those already employed in small companion animal businesses. Job roles generally
involve supervisory responsibility and include pet shop manager, companion
animal behaviourist, animal groomer, kennel or cattery manager, animal shelter
supervisor, mobile hydro-bath operator.

This course enables you to build on your skills and knowledge for the care of
companion animals and the operations of a companion animal facility. It is
essential that whilst undertaking this course you have access to a companion
animal workplace through either paid employment or significant periods of work
placement or work experience. This will allow you to practise what you have
learnt and increase your experience working with others in an animal care
facility.

By completing this course you will be able to manage compliance in the
companion animal industry; monitor and maintain animal health and wellbeing;
maintain work health and safety processes for the enterprise; and
undertake business-related duties. There are several options to specialise
including the care of specific species, operating hydro-bathing
operations, preparing and delivering care education programs and animal
training.

Pathways from this course include graduate level study to provide advanced
skills and knowledge for further advancement.
