Small automotive workshops are increasingly taking on air conditioning work themselves rather than outsourcing it. This trend is driving strong demand for licensed workers who are air conditioning specialists.

Workers in rural areas who have an air conditioning licence are in the greatest demand. Mining and construction, agricultural spreaders and harvesters, and road transport operators cannot afford the downtime needed to send their vehicle away and so they directly employ air conditioning specialists.

The 1990s was a time of great change in air conditioning in general - and automotive air conditioning in particular. As surface transport changes with hybrid cars and other innovations, automotive air conditioning must follow suit. The future will see new refrigerant gases and lubricants, and changes to compressor design and drive systems.
