Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development. In this course you will undertake:

  • Written assessments: written or computer based knowledge assessments and project assignments
  • Practical assessments: workshop based skills assessments

Skills gained in the workplace may be recognised as evidence to contribute towards skills assessments.

The Certificate II in Automotive Vocation is an entry level qualification that provides no exposure to simulated or real world. It does cover your foundational skills for the mechanics industry, and will give you a taste of what an automotive career could be like.

This course, the Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Technology, is where youll gain all your underpinning experience in heavy vehicle mechanics. It is a trade level course and provides real world exposure where you will apply what youre learning in real and simulated environments.

The Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis doesnt cover the underpinning experience gained in the Certificate III. This course focuses on diagnostics at an advanced level, and depending on your location, management and supervisory skills. You do need to complete the Certificate III before enrolling into the Certificate IV.

Your employment as an apprentice in the heavy vehicle industry provides you with daily behind the scenes experience, while working on a variety of tasks with skilled industry trade people.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Diagnosing and repairing automotive mechanical, pneumatic and electrical systems
