Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned so far and identify what knowledge or skills need further development. In this course you will undertake:

The Certificate III Individual Support (Disability) provides strong foundational skills to get your career started in disability sector.

This course, the Certificate IV in Disability provides you with the skills and knowledge to work autonomously and with a degree of responsibility. You may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams.

Your work placement provides you with important on-the-job experience where you will learn what goes on behind the scenes to support people with disability to lead fulfilling lives.

You will gain a range of skills to deliver high quality support:

  • Build relationships with people with disabilities and their family members
  • Experience working with people who have a variety of disabilities
  • Empower people with disability
  • Facilitate community inclusion and social inclusion
  • Contribute to the review and evaluation of organisation policy and procedure
  • Work within organisational policy and procedures in regards to appropriate and relevant documentation (including records and storage)
  • Deliver person-centred supports
  • Engage in critical analysis and reflection of own practice

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills as a community worker through an innovative, virtual, simulated organisation called the Indigo Community Services and Health Hub.

The Hub is where you will gain practical experience working with simulated clients who have real world goals before starting your work placement.

TAFE NSW offers you a range of online and on campus study environments - industry specific computer rooms, simulated workplaces, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities - to enhance your learning and employability.

In this course you will study in three main learning environments:

  1. TAFE NSW campus classroom: you will be equipped with the knowledge needed to work within the community services sector

  2. Indigo Community Services and Health Hub: a custom designed virtual simulated organisation where you will develop practical skills

  3. Disability organisation: your work placement hours provide an opportunity to refine your practical skills

The disability sector is a dynamic and rapidly growing industry, with demand for workers strong, and expected to grow by nearly 6,000 jobs by 2024. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a key driver of this growth and supports people with disabilities, their families and carers through early interventions and advisory services as well as access to new equipment and respite care.
