- Practical assessments: determine hand skill development
- Theory assessments: underpinning knowledge
- Projects
This course, the Certificate III level, is where you gain all of your underpinning technical skills in bricklaying and blocklaying. It provides real world exposure through your apprenticeship and you will apply what you learn in TAFE NSW simulated work environments. Youll practice your skills at an intermediate level.
The Certificate IV Building and Construction (Building) course doesnt cover the underpinning experience gained in the Certificate III. This construction management course will teach you to plan building or construction work, to apply structural principles to low rise constructions, and to conduct on-site supervision of building and construction projects.
You need to complete the Certificate III before enrolling into the Certificate IV.
You will gain hands-on experience in:
- laying bricks and masonry blocks using different bonds and mortar mixes
- brick patterns and cement mortars for domestic, commercial, industrial and public buildings
- constructing ornamental panels, arches and columns
Practical workshops provide for the development of hand skills in a simulated model of the workplace.
TAFE NSW offers you a range of online and on campus study environments - industry specific computer rooms, simulated workplaces, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities - to enhance your learning and employability.
You will study in classrooms for theory knowledge content and when developing your technical skills youll study in a workshop equipped with industry standard tools and materials.
This qualification is in a high demand skill shortage area of building construction and maintenance.
Population growth will see the employment outlook for skilled bricklayers remain buoyant, with any slowing in the residential construction sector offset by opportunities in major government infrastructure projects.
