Overview

Would you like to gain specialist expertise for employment in the construction industry? TAFE NSW's Certificate III in Joinery (Stairs) will teach you trade skills in stair building and installation for work in residential and commercial environments. You will learn to read and interpret plans and specifications, carry out measurements and calculations, undertake levelling operations and use carpentry tools and equipment to assemble and install stairs.

You will also learn to construct fabricated stairs, manufacture stair components for straight-flighted, curved and geometric stairs, and to manufacture and install continuous hand-railing and other special stair features. Elective units include the ability to install lining, panelling and moulding, to assemble partitions and to apply trim and decorative finishes. This course is also available as a carpentry apprenticeship in NSW.
