Get the technical skills to start your career as a fire sprinkler fitter. Learn to safeguard residential, commercial and industrial properties through installing, testing and maintaining fire protection systems.

Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Fit domestic and residential safety sprinkler systems

  • Test and maintain fire hydrant and hose reel systems

  • Design pre-calculated fire sprinkler systems

  • Work with small and large water services

  • Activate devices and local alarms and install special hazard systems

  • Inspect and test control and indicate equipment

Completion requirements

During your study you’ll need to provide your teacher with the following evidence:

  • A general construction induction card (commonly known as a white card) – you will need this before you can enter a construction site

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A reasonable level of fitness to handle the physical demands of the job

  • Completed Year 10 of high school or its equivalent

  • Employment in a relevant job or access to appropriate simulated workplace environments

  • Confidence working in different environments

  • PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) for access to campus workshop locations

Licensing

This is a licensed occupation. When you successfully complete the Certificate III in Fire Protection and applicable units from the Certificate IV in Plumbing (CPCPWT4011 and CPCCBC4012) you can apply for a water plumbing/fire protection systems licence with NSW Fair Trading. Units Units taught in this course

Courses are made up of a combination of both core and specialty units. In the Certificate III in Fire Protection qualification, you’ll need to successfully complete 37 units of competency, including 32 core and 5 speciality units.
