The nationally recognised Diploma of Building Design will teach you sought-after technical skills and allow you to work as an architectural draftsperson or building designer. Specialise in residential projects such as new buildings or renovations, or undertake commercial and industrial projects.


Through a mix of theory and practical coursework, learn to:

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development. In this course, your competence will be assessed through:

  • Practical assessment
  • Theoretical assessment
  • Project assessment

This includes designing and developing single residence townhouses and a commercial building up to three storeys.

The Diploma of Building Design is the entry level qualification you need to become a building designer.

The Diploma of Building Design could lead into a Graduate Diploma with TAFE NSW.
