The nationally accredited Certificate III in Design Fundamentals prepares you to start a career in the creative industries. Choose an area of specialisation such as graphic design, interior design, jewellery, production and entertainment design, visual arts and photography, ceramics, fashion design and textile design and printing.

Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned so far and identify what knowledge or skills need further development. In this course, the assessments are very practical, and involve both group and individual work.

This course, the Certificate III, is an entry-level qualification that will give you a strong foundation to begin your career in design at a junior level and go on to further study. It is a great program for both early school leavers and creative people who may be unsure how to get a foot in the door of the creative industries. You will learn broad design skills that introduce you to different creative fields and you will be prepared for success in the Certificate IV.

The Certificate IV in Design extends and develops your creative practice. Through your core units, you will hone your creative thinking, devise design solutions, interpret a design brief and integrate colour theory into your practice. It also allows you to specialise in a creative discipline, including graphic design, interior design, illustration, design for theatre and film, industrial design, jewellery design and fashion design.

Depending on your campus location, you may have the opportunity to participate in excursions that get behind the scenes in the design industry.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Hand drawing
  • Illustration techniques
  • 3D modelling and construction
  • Digital design
  • Working correctly with equipment and materials
  • Working with paints
  • Producing digital presentations

You will work on real world projects across different creative disciplines including, publishing, animation, digital design, packaging, illustration, film and television, printing, fashion and textiles, visual arts and jewellery making.
