Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned, and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.
In this course the assessments are mostly practical and are usually held in performance spaces and computer labs. There are some written assessments including music theory exams and some knowledge tests about the music industry.
The Certificate III in Music Industry (Performance) is an entry level course that prepares you for higher level study and increased job outcomes. When you graduate you could find work in assistant roles or entry level positions in the music industry. This course gives you a broad range of skills to build on your ability as an instrumentalist, vocalist, composer or songwriter.
The Certificate IV in Music Industry (Performance) teaches you a broad range of skills that build on your natural talent as an instrumentalist, vocalist, composer or songwriter.
You will get an introduction to the structure of the music industry including the different job roles available, music genres and copyright. It is not an entry requirement, however it is ideal if students undertaking the Certificate IV have completed the Certificate III in Music Industry (Performance) and have the ability to either:
- Play an instrument
- Perform as a vocalist
- Compose music or songs
The Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) is an exciting program for anyone who already has a solid grounding in music, has some industry experience and who is looking to take their skills and knowledge to a higher level. It is highly recommended that you have completed your Certificate IV in Music Industry (Performance) or have equivalent skills and knowledge (this may be assessed by an audition or submission of a portfolio) to undertake this course.
The Advanced Diploma of Music Industry (Performance) will take your skills, knowledge and experience beyond the level of diploma courses, and help you become a professional musician, singer or songwriter. It is also highly recommended that you have completed your Diploma in Music Industry (Performance) or have equivalent skills and knowledge (this may be assessed by an audition or submission of a portfolio). Depending on your skill level and interests, you will typically have the opportunity to make a professional recording that is ready for distribution.
Depending on your campus location, you may be involved in excursions that take you behind the scenes in the music industry. We also invite guest lecturers from the music industry to join us and add an extra dimension to your learning.
TAFE NSW is known for delivering theory along with practical skills. In the Certificate III in Music Industry (Performance) course you will gain hands-on experience in:
