Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned so far and identify what knowledge or skills need further development. In this course the assessments are very practical, and involve both group and individual work.

The Certificate III in Design Fundamentals is an entry level qualification that will give you a strong foundation to either begin your career in design or go on to further design study. It is a great program for both early school leavers and creative people who may be unsure how to get a foot in the door of the creative industries.

You will learn broad design skills, allowing you to get a taste of different creative fields and be set up for success when you go on to further study in the Certificate IV in Design.

The Certificate IV in Design is a broad base creative course. Select the creative discipline that suits your design strengths or follow on from previous study in a discipline specific field.

Depending on your campus location you may have the opportunity to participate in excursions and incursions that give you an insight into the design industry.

There are excursions to graphic design agencies, paper suppliers and there are often guest speakers who join us to share their knowledge and expertise.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Working with various mediums and products
  • Producing digital presentations

You will work on real world projects that are related to the design stream you choose and these can include publishing, animation, digital design, packaging, illustration, film and television, set design, prop design, printing, fashion and textiles, visual arts and jewellery .

Examples of real world projects
In Production and Entertainment Design you will design and produce sets, create puppets and use make-up.

In Graphic Design you will design logos, create corporate branding and identity and design for social media.

In Jewellery Design you will create wearable art, costume jewellery and a range of jewellery items.

In Textile Design you will be designing a garment, making the garment, costume design.

Depending on your campus location you may have the opportunity to participate in mid-year and end of year exhibitions and youll graduate with a portfolio of work.

There are many creative industry jobs that require higher level study as entry however this qualification could help you gain work placement as either a junior or assistant designer or even possibly working within the creative retail space.
