Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned, and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development.

In this course you can expect practical projects involving music creation, music mixing and editing; and in some cases live electronic music performances.

The Diploma of Music Industry (Sound Production) is the perfect course for students who have already completed some study in music or for those returning to industry.

There is an expectation that students will do practice on their instrument and voice as part of their study.

There are two streams of this course on offer:

  • Sound production
  • Electronic music

Certificate II in Music Industry is a broad entry-level course providing insight into the industry and some technical experience.

Certificate III and Certificate IV in Music Industry require some small amount of existing experience in music technology or home recording but will still cover the basics at increasing levels of complexity.

The Diploma level course is right for you if you have a background in sound production or music production and is a good refresher for anyone who has been out of the industry for a few years. Diploma level study requires higher levels of knowledge and experience in recording, audio editing and mixing, audio theory and music industry studies.

The Advanced Diploma level requires advanced levels of knowledge and experience in music production, studio recording, sound design, composition, arranging and copyright.

Depending on your campus location, you may be involved in excursions that take you behind the scenes in the music industry. We also invite guest lecturers from the music industry to join us and add an extra dimension to your learning.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Setting up microphones
  • Recording instruments and vocals
  • Creating beats and other production elements using music software
  • Collaborating with other producers and musicians
