Learning outcomes

Through a mixture of theory and practical course work, learn to:

  • Analyse and measure basic circuits using a variety of techniques

  • Design and apply Energy Storage Systems in both renewable and non-renewable energy supply systems

  • Research, design and implement a grid connected photovoltaic (PV) system with energy storage

  • Produce electrical circuit simulations

  • Measure solar PV panels in practical laboratory classes

  • Calculate energy output and monetary payback

Entry requirements

This course requires evidence of previous experience or study before you can enrol

You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

  • A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent or

  • A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent or

  • A completed Certificate IV or higher vocational qualification

You must also:

  • Have mathematics knowledge to HSC level or equivalent before entering this course, or you may be required to undertake a bridging program or preparatory maths course. All students will submit a skills assessment questionnaire to test their maths capabilities.

  • Attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support.

Note:

  • Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

Entry recommendations

To be prepared for this course, we recommend that you have:

  • A strong desire to design and innovate renewable energy sources and energy storage systems

  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability and the environment

  • An interest in science, technology, engineering, design and mathematics

  • A personal computer or laptop to access study materials and complete your assessments. You can access this equipment on campus, however, it is highly recommended you have your own equipment available.

You do not require an ATAR score for entry into this course.

Licensing

Once you have completed the Undergraduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering you will be eligible to apply for your provisional Grid-connect Design Only accreditation issued by the Clean Energy Council (CEC) . This accreditation is for individuals who want to design solar systems that are connected to the grid. It is not compulsory, but it is a popular pathway for people who want to enter the industry.
