Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education - Early Childhood

• Understand and appreciate the diverse Cultures and ways of learning of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

• Implement culturally appropriate and meaningful curriculum learning opportunities

• Embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture and perspectives in early childhood education

• Compare current and future policy directions and initiatives in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education for equity and social justice in early childhood education

• Develop your understanding of diverse Cultures, practices and beliefs in relation to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

• Develop a Reconciliation Action Plan

• Guide staff, families and children in truth-telling related to the history of Australia and its Peoples

• A microcredential in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education - Early Childhood

• The knowledge to compare current and future policy directions and initiatives in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander education for equity and social justice in early childhood education

• The skills to apply knowledge of curriculum and teaching strategies for embedding Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander perspectives in early childhood education

You must demonstrate that you have achieved one of the following:

• A NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent or

• A Certificate IV in Tertiary Preparation or its equivalent or

• A completed certificate IV or higher vocational qualification

You must also:

• Attend a pre-admission interview where you may also be asked to complete a short literacy and numeracy task - this helps us to understand how we can support your study success and provide you with any necessary support

Note:

• Your certificates, transcripts and other entry requirement evidence must be certified through a Justice of the Peace or other authorising officer

• An interest in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families

• A current First Aid Certificate including CPR, anaphylaxis and asthma awareness training to meet WorkCover requirements

• The Child Protection Awareness Training (induction) Unit of Competence CHCPRT001 – Identify and respond to children and young people at risk of harm

• An understanding of culturally safe practices and ways to communicate respectfully

• Awareness that you’ll need to attend a 5 1/2 hour orientation before class commences

• The ability to improve quality outcomes for children, families, colleagues, and services
