Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned and to identify the knowledge or skills that may need further development. In this course you will undertake:

  • Written assessments which may include short answer questions
  • Practical assessments which may include laboratory skills assessments

Assignments will be delivered via traditional face-to-face methods, as well as through online methods such as Moodle.

The Certificate III in Laboratory Skills is an entry level course and the right place to start if you dont have a strong background in chemistry, biology or simple statistics. You will focus on sample preparation in a supervised setting. This course provides a great foundation for the Certificate IV and sets you up for study success.

This course, the Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques, focuses on non-instrumental analysis of samples and qualifies you to work semi-autonomously as a technician. If you have recently left school, it is recommended that you have completed some science in Year 10 12 to ensure you are prepared. Youll practice your skills at an intermediate level.

The Diploma of Laboratory Technology course doesnt cover the underpinning experience gained in the Certificate III. This course focuses on instrumental analysis and qualifies you to work unsupervised as a technician. You need to complete the Certificate IV course as an official prerequisite. You will receive recognition of prior learning for units achieved.

You will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Working with chemical and biological solutions
  • Performing chemical experiments
  • Performing manual, semi-automated and fully auto-mated laboratory procedures
  • Adjusting formulations and production mixes

You will study in authentic chemical and biological laboratories that have been designed and built specifically around OECD Good Laboratory guidelines, in order to provide an accurate simulation of modern laboratories.

This qualification takes into account the rapid integration of future technologies such as robotics, and artificial intelligence to equip you with the knowledge you need to flourish in the laboratory.
