The Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer) (Thoroughbred) will qualify you to become a person, who is licensed to operate a business, which trains Thoroughbred horses under racing industry regulated licensing criteria, for the purpose of competing in industry-regulated events.

You will build on your passion, skills and experience with Thoroughbred horses, and horse-racing, to develop a sound understanding of how the training and racing of horses operates in the industry. You will learn how to manage staff, finances, budgets, equipment and animals. The Trainer has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the care, maintenance and performance of a racing horse are at an optimal level. Stablehands, Stable Foremen and Trackriders all take instruction from the horse Trainer. The horse Trainer is also in a unique position with the animal's owner, where they are hired for their specific expertise and track record, but must also produce results. Others that you work with or supervise will look to your skills and experience to solve complex and unforeseen problems.

Completion of the Certificate IV in Racing (Racehorse Trainer) (Thoroughbred) will prepare you for this very hands-on career. This course is suited to an Australian Apprenticeship pathway and is designed for people who are already working in the horse racing industry or have experience with horses.
